History and trends

Every session, and how your week adds up.

Shade Plus keeps your sun session history, shows 7- and 30-day exposure trends and rough vitamin D estimates, and can log UV exposure to Apple Health.

Shade Plus keeps a history of your sun sessions and turns it into simple trends: how long you spent in the sun, how much of your estimated limit you used each day, and whether you ended sessions in time. It’s a record of what happened, so you can notice patterns over a week or a month.

What you’ll find

  • Session list: each session with its length and the UV at the start and end.
  • Minutes per day: a chart of the last seven days.
  • Exposure trends: your logged UV dose as a share of your daily estimated limit, over 7 or 30 days.
  • In time: how often you ended a session before your estimated burn time, plus a sunscreen streak for days you reapplied.

Shade rewards stopping in time and reapplying, never more minutes in the sun. Low-UV days don’t break a streak.

Vitamin D estimates

Shade can show a rough vitamin D range for the sun you logged today. It’s informational only: a wide estimate based on UV, not a measurement of anything in your body. It doesn’t tell you how much sun you need, and it can’t tell you whether you’re low on vitamin D. For that, talk to a doctor.

Apple Health sync

Turn on Health sync and Shade writes the UV exposure from each completed session to Apple Health, where it sits alongside your other health data. Vitamin D estimates stay in Shade, because Apple Health files vitamin D as diet and supplement intake.

Trends only include sessions you logged in Shade, not every minute you spent outside. A walk to the shops without a session won’t appear. Treat the numbers as a personal log rather than a complete picture.

Free and Plus

Session history, trends, vitamin D estimates and Health sync are part of Shade Plus. The live UV index, your burn-time estimate and widgets are free. See tanning sessions for how sessions work.

About the numbers

UV data comes from Apple Weather. Exposure estimates follow WHO UV Index guidance and standard skin-type values. Everything here is an estimate for information, not medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

What does Shade’s history show?

Every logged sun session with its duration and the UV at the start and end, minutes per day for the last week, and how much of your daily estimated limit you used over the last 7 or 30 days.

How accurate is the vitamin D estimate?

It’s a rough, informational range based on the UV during your logged sessions. It can’t measure your vitamin D level and isn’t medical advice. Ask a doctor if you have questions about vitamin D.

What does Shade write to Apple Health?

With Health sync turned on, Shade writes the UV exposure from your completed sun sessions. It doesn’t write vitamin D, because Health treats vitamin D as food and supplement intake.
